CERTIFIED TEACHERS



  • ELIGIBILITY

    Individuals with a graduate degree in the performing arts and a significant background in theatre, or a demonstrable equivalent will be accepted into the Teacher Certification Program.
    Qualified applicants maybe admitted into the program in two ways.

    • The successful completion of an E.A. sponsored workshop.
    • The written recommendation of a Certified Teacher.
  • TUITION

    Tuition for the certification program is approximately $3000. (Increased cost not to exceed 20% annually).
    Transportation and accommodations are the responsibility of the individual participant.
  • TIME TABLE

    A typical course of study typically takes between two-three years to complete. Longer time frames related to individual circumstances may increase the length of the certification process.
    The program is approximately 20-25 days--approximately 4-5 full, work-weeks of training.
  • REQUIREMENTS

    COMMITMENT—to developing an internally consistent and theoretically sound understanding of the principles and practices of the Lugering Method.

    TRAINING—participation in sponsored workshops.

    PRACTICE—an on-going working laboratory where the certification candidate can explore and teach the principles and practices of the Lugering Method during the training process.

    INTELLECTUAL STUDY—a comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical principles of the Lugering Method. In particular, a detailed understanding of the content, references and resources outlined in THE EXPRESSIVE ACTOR: Integrated Voice, Movement and Actor Training.

    TRAINING RESIDENCY—with Master Teacher Michael Lugering or an appropriate designated representative.

    OBSERVATION—the final step in the certification process involves the observation of the candidate's teaching practices and methods by Master Teacher Michael Lugering or an appropriate designated representative.
  • COURSE OF STUDY

    Certification Level I


    A minimum of two
    8-Day Teacher Training Intensives. Usually offered in the summer at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

    Approximate Cost: $900 per Intensive.

    Certification Level II

    A
    5-Day Individualized/One-on-One-Training Tutorial with Master Teacher Michael Lugering or a designated representative to be arranged by each individual participant.


    Approximate Cost: $900.

    Individual variations in the course of study may be accommodated with prior approval.

    Officially sponsored training experiences prior to acceptance into the certification program maybe granted towards teacher certification.
  • COMPLETION

    Certified Teachers of the Lugering Method recognize that the study of integrated expression is a life-long practice.

    Certified Teachers of the Lugering Method demonstrate a proficient understanding of the theoretical principles:

    • Architecture of an Expressive Action

    • Hierarchy of an Expressive Action

    • Principles of Integrated Self-Use

    • Aesthetic Theory

    Certified Teachers demonstrate proficient teaching practices and can lead principles, technique and improvisational classes in the Lugering Method.
      Certified Teachers demonstrate a proficient implementation of "hands-on" instruction (“use of touch”) in their teaching practice.

      Certified Teachers demonstrate a teaching style that views permission and acceptance of the student as the foundation for instruction,
      correction and criticism.

      The E.A. is committed to providing teacher training with the highest of ethical standards. Transparency and upfront disclosure of the requirements and cost of its teacher training programs is central to honoring this goal. Additionally, the E.A. recognizes that the process of fare and equitable teacher training requires a fluid system that allows for on-going institutional adaptation, change and growth. While the teacher training programs at the E.A. maybe subject to change, individuals accepted into any program are only held accountable for the requirements and stipulations articulated upon their matriculation into the training program.

    ASSOCIATE TEACHERS



    • ELIGIBILITY

      ASSOCIATE TEACHERS have significant training and teaching experience in the Lugering Method.
      Certified Teachers with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in the Lugering Method at a recognized training institution or a consistent and demonstrable private practice, are eligible for the Associate Teacher Training Program.
      Applicants are admitted into the program upon the approval of Master Teacher/Founding Director Michael Lugering.

      Tuition for the Associate Teacher Training Program is approximately $2000. (Increased operational cost not to exceed 20% annually).

      CONTINUED TEACHER TRAINING—through the leading of classes at E.A. sponsored workshops.

      COMMITMENT—to sharing the Lugering Method with theatre and performing artists or other interested individuals by offering workshops and presentations of the practice at recognizable regional, national and international venues.

      INDIVIDUALIZED STUDY—with Master Teacher Michael Lugering or an appropriate designated representative.
    • COURSE OF STUDY

    MASTER TEACHERS



    MASTER TEACHERS have extensive training and teaching experience in the Lugering Method of Integrated Voice, Movement & Acting Training. Individuals with Master Teacher status have a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience. The title of Master Teacher is an honorary designation given only to those individuals who through their scholarship, teaching, leadership and service have shaped the curriculum, the direction and the advancement of the E.A.
