The study of human expression has the potential to unite the traditionally disparate disciplines of movement, voice and acting in a unified method of training.
MICHAEL LUGERING
The actor in training should begin focusing not on what "is" but rather what "ought" or "could" be if the conditions are right.
MICHAEL LUGERING
Integration is predicated on physical action, occurs through physical action and is foundationally a study of physical action.
MICHAEL LUGERING
I believe that meaning and understanding emerge from our visceral connection to our bodies.
MICHAEL LUGERING
A detailed and precise physical vocabulary lies at the very heart of any serious technique.
MICHAEL LUGERING
The actor's primary responsibility is not merely to live truthfully in imaginary circumstances, but also to live artfully in imaginary circumstances.
MICHAEL LUGERING
The goal is to develop a specific set of physical resources that lead, prompt and motivate expressive action.
MICHAEL LUGERING
The language of the body is specific and concrete and of great practial use to the actor.

The 5-DAY TRAINING INTENSIVE offers a thorough investigation of the principles and practices of the Lugering Method:

    • Architecture of an Expressive Action--the physical raw materials that make human expression possible will be articulated and researched in an experiential process rooted in sensation and exploration.

    • Hierarchy of an Expressive Action--an improvisatory process in which an expressive action is built from the ground-up. The actor investigate how a weight-shift influences a breath-shift, influences a sound-shift and ultimately a speech-shift in integrated human expression.

    • Voice and Body Work—a series of exercises that progress sequentially from lying, to sitting, to standing, and finally, to upright locomotive movement. Each of the exercises incorporates a series of integrated moving, breathing and sounding actions that mirror the universal physical pattern that makes human expression possible.

The workshop is open to participants of all backgrounds and experience.
